Where To Take Your Dog For A Walk In Iron County
If you've been busy exploring Cedar City homes for sale before and after work, chances are your furry friend might be feeling a little bit lonely. The good news is, as soon as you settle in, you can start taking walks together once again. There are plenty of dog-friendly walking trails nearby that you can both enjoy. Here are a few of our favorites.
Aspen Mirror Lake Trail: Aspen-Mirror Lake, Duck Creek Village, UT 84762
This easy hike is both short and scenic. It's located on the quaint Aspen-Mirror Lake, just off Highway 14. It's the perfect place to take your dog for a stroll while enjoying the scenery along this quiet waterfront. The Aspen Mirror Lake Trail is dog-friendly, although a leash is required.
Brian Head Trails: Brian Head, UT 84719
A 2.7-mile trail that loops around the town, the Brian Head Town Trail is another relatively easy walk. It offers fairly flat terrain and stunning views of the Aspen Forests and Red Rock. This trail runs along Highway 143 and can be accessed at various points throughout the town. We recommend starting at the trailhead, which is located at the intersection of Aspen Drive and Hwy 143. While you're in the area, you'll also want to check out Brian Head Peak.
Coal Creek Walking Trail: 581 N Main St., Cedar City, UT 84721
If you and your dog want to get some miles in, try the Coal Creek Walking Trail. This 3.4-mile trail runs along Coal Creek from Bicentennial Park, past Rotary Centennial Veterans Park, through East Canyon Park, and east through Cedar Canyon. There are many access points along the way, including the Cedar City Visitor Center, Cedar Nature Park, Bicentennial Park, and Cedar City Canyon Park. This trail is dog-friendly but does require a leash.
Twisted Forest Hiking Trail: FR 265, Brian Head, UT 84719
A one-mile out-and-back trail with moderate difficulty, Twisted Forest Hiking Trail is located in the Dixie National Forest. Walking this trail gives you the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with Bristlenose Pines. They're some of the oldest living things on earth, with some thought to be thousands of years old. This trail is approximately 9,750 feet above sea level, so you'll want to assess whether you're healthy enough to hike at this altitude. There are also a few sheer drop-offs along the trail, so make sure you keep your dog on-leash and use caution.
Virgin River Rim: Strawberry Point Rd., Duck Creek, UT 84762
The 27.6 mile Virgin River Rim is a point-to-point trail that typically sees light traffic. This trail is categorized as being moderately-difficult and is known for its beautiful wildflowers. Virgin River Rim is a dog-friendly trail, but it's also used for mountain biking and horseback riding. You'll want to make sure your dog won't be too skittish. Otherwise, you may want to choose one of the area's other dog-friendly walking trails.
