Carmel Canyon is just minutes from the Cedar City Aquatic Center, where residents enjoy family-friendly fun all summer long. Next to the aquatic center is Park Discovery, a sprawling playground that is sure to become a favorite of many young members of your family. In addition to a massive playground area, the park features an amphitheater, walking paths, and public restrooms.

Just west of Carmel Canyon is Southern Utah University's Ashcroft Observatory. Opened in the 1970s, the observatory has a mission to stay focused on community involvement and learning opportunities. When summer comes around, Brian Head is still a great place to get outside and play, with a mountain bike park with bike rentals, a scenic lift ride, the climbing wall, avalanche tubing, adrenaline-pumping zip line, archery, disc golf, or the bungee trampoline.
Cedar City also hosts multiple festivals throughout the year, including The Neil Simon Festival running from mid-July to mid-August each year, and the Tony Award-Winning Utah Shakespeare Festival during the summer and fall at Southern Utah University.
