Relocating to Kanarraville Utah
Kanarraville was originally called Kanarra because it sat on Kanarra Creek. It was first settled in 1862 named for the Piute Chief Canarrah or Quanarrah but local settlers spelled it Kanarrah or Kanarra instead. The first settlers were families driven from Fort Harmony when the fort had to be abandoned after most of the walls were washed away during the month of heavy rains. The area was historically supported by farming, ranching, and coal mining but is only maintained a population of less than 400 since then. The town of Kanarraville was incorporated in 1934 and the local Creek Canyon and falls attract thousands of visitors each year.
Kanarraville Things to Do
The Kanarra Falls is probably the most prominent attraction in town. This is a fantastic place for hikers to come by the thousands to explore each year. The creek comes off Kanarra Mountain through the beautiful red Canyon slots to make its way through the valley irrigating fields and gardens of local farmers. The creek runs all year long over a series of small falls. The hike is about 3.8 miles with an altitude gain of 700 feet. It is mostly in shade and occasionally walking and water. The whole Falls trail takes about four hours and can be traversed any time of the year.
Spring Creek is another fantastic destination in Kanarraville starting about a mile south of town. The hike follows Spring Creek up the canyon to the narrows and the trailhead is about 5600 feet in elevation with an altitude gain of about 500 feet. It takes about 2 to 4 hours and is roughly 3 miles.
This is in addition to several other local trails spreading out throughout the Kanarraville area. It's also the gateway to dozens of the most beautiful national parks and state parks and monuments.
Residents are part of the Iron County School District and students are typically assigned to the Cedar East elementary school, the Cedar middle school, and the Cedar City high school. All of the schools are approximately 10 miles from most homes in Kanarraville and can be bussed in.
