Relocating to New Harmony
New Harmony… Sounds intriguing and quite relaxing, doesn't it? This small little town located in northern Washington County is home to just over 200 residents and is quite spread out. Home to several trails and outdoor adventures, New Harmony is located just off of Interstate 15 about 25 minutes or 22 miles south of Cedar City.
Come the town was originally settled as part of efforts to mine and refine iron found in the area. The first settlers built a foundry in 1852 but it was soon abandoned due to transport and logistic issues. The area was again attempted to be settled in 1962 by families driven from Fort Harmony after being abandoned after many of its structures and walls were washed away during the heavy rains in January and February, specifically due to the flood of 1862.
What people should know about New Harmony.
This pleasant little farming community offers friendly faces and community service. It has an annual apple festival each October and it's close to nearby communities that there's always some festival or event going on nearby. What do locals have to say about living in New Harmony?

Known as a peaceful and protective area perfect to live and raise a family, New Harmony is close enough to Cedar City and St. George to be a great spot to relax and rest even if you work nearby. You'll find a variety of wildlife meandering to the streets and with an elevation of over 5000 feet, residents experience year-round seasons.

Residents are part of the Washington County school system and most students attend Iron Springs elementary school, Canyon View Middle school, and Canyon View High school. All of which are located about 20 miles north and Cedar City.

New Harmony might not have a lot of residents but were really spread out so you can find a home at the base of the mountains, the cabin in the woods far away from town, or something pretty close to the interstate, which gives you easy access to shops, amenities, and services. It's also about 20 minutes from Cedar City so you're close to major services without having to live in the bustling downtown. Home prices are all over the board with acreage over $800,000 for simple homes in town under $400,000. This is a great location if you're looking for more space but remember, it is a small town so if you like that small-town atmosphere, New Harmony might be right for you.
